Studio Policy
Cadenza Performance Academy
Goals:
The goal of this studio is to provide a safe environment where students can learn the art of classical and traditional music. Through the study of music each student will gain a sense of self-discipline, self-confidence, responsibility, teamwork and a voice both in music and in life. We also strive to ignite passion These goals will be achieved through cooperation between student, teacher and parent to help the students gain a solid understanding of these concepts and progress as far as they want to go in music.
Student Expectations:
Students are required to take a weekly private lesson. Students driving themselves should plan to be 5-10 minutes early for lessons. Practice at home is required. Teachers will provide practice charts for students each week with instructions. Students are expected to bring all prepared music with them to each lesson.

Parent and Guardian Expectations:
If you are driving a student to lessons, please try to be 5-10 minutes for your lesson.
Parents of students under the age of 14 are required to sit in the lesson with the student, and will be asked to be involved in the students practice time at home. This ensures the student will stay on task and help them progress farther faster. Parents of older students are strongly encouraged to sit in lessons and to listen to the practice and help provide an environment in which the student can progress.
Teacher Expectations:
Our teachers will create a safe nonjudgmental environment for students to thrive in. They will also hold and maintain a high standard for both themselves and their students. Likewise, they will push each individual student to be the highest quality musician they can be, while upholding the goals of this studio. The teacher will be flexible for each student’s schedule, and respectful to family emergencies, school events, and church functions that may interfere with lessons. Teachers will also be early to all lessons.

Missing Lessons:
If a lesson is to be canceled the teacher must be notified no later than 48 hours outside of the time. If a student does not show up for a lesson, or the lesson is canceled after the 48 hour deadline there will be no refund for the lesson, and the lessons will not be made up.

If the teacher is notified properly, then the lesson will be made up at an agreed upon time by the guardian/student and the teacher at no extra charge. In the event of an emergency or illness a make-up lesson will be given.
Lessons Selection:
Ultimately whatever is decided on between the parent/guardian and the student will be the set lesson length. However, a lesson length will be recommended by the teacher based on the student’s age, musical background, and experience level. The teacher will be fair and impartial in recommending lesson durations.

Instrument Sizing For Violin and Viola:
The teacher will size the student for an instrument. The student cannot move up in instrument size until it is recommended by the teacher. Playing on an instrument that is too big will cause pain when playing, and could lead to injury. This cannot be stressed enough. PLEASE DO NOT MOVE UP IN SIZE WITHOUT TEACHER’S APPROVAL.

Instrument Rental/Buying
Please speak with your teacher before you buy or move up in instrument size. The playability of an instrument is crucial when it comes to learning, practicing, and performing. Trying to learn on an instrument of poor quality can lead to loss of interest. Likewise, trying to learn an instrument that is too big could result in practice related injury. Our goal is to avoid both of these, so please speak with your teacher before making a decision on an instrument. We want all of our students to have happy and healthy practice habits!
